Modern JavaScript & Frameworks

This unit develops learners’ practical skills with asynchronous JavaScript, module systems, modern toolchains, and component-based front-end frameworks while introducing core Node.js server concepts. Students will use Vite and npm to scaffold projects, build interactive UI components in React/Vue/Svelte, and implement basic server-side functionality and debugging workflows to prepare for full-stack application development.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze asynchronous JavaScript behavior by tracing the event loop, creating and consuming Promises, and applying patterns that prevent race conditions and unhandled rejections.
• Apply module and package management practices by exporting/importing modules, managing dependencies with npm, and initializing projects with Vite to create reproducible development environments.
• Demonstrate the ability to build interactive, component-based user interfaces by implementing components, data binding, JSX/templates, forms, and event handling in React, Vue, and Svelte.
• Evaluate basic server-side functionality by creating Node.js servers, using streams and file I/O, implementing Express routing, and connecting to a MongoDB instance for simple data access, while employing browser and Chrome debugging tools.
