Java I/O, Control, and Debugging

This unit reinforces core Java programming constructs (methods, conditional operators, loops, arrays, strings, and numeric classes) and introduces basic user input/output and GUI components (Scanner, System, NumberFormat, JOptionPane, JFrame). Students will practice debugging common array and string errors, experiment with JShell for rapid development, and explore pathways for continued learning and career entry in software development.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze method signatures, return values, and conditional expressions to design and trace program flow that produces correct outputs
• Apply looping constructs and array-handling techniques to implement algorithms and correct common array-related errors in Java programs
• Demonstrate use of Java I/O and presentation APIs (Scanner, System, NumberFormat, JOptionPane, JFrame) to collect input and display formatted output
• Evaluate and debug programs using JShell and diagnostic strategies to identify and fix string, numeric, and runtime issues while documenting steps toward continued professional development
