Designing DevOps Culture & Practices

This unit develops the people, process, and technical practices required to transition teams to DevOps, emphasizing persuasion, values, and adoption strategies alongside engineering practices. Students learn to design and implement CI/CD, automated testing, resilient architectures, incident response, and cloud adoption patterns that produce maintainable, high-velocity delivery pipelines.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze organizational and technical barriers to DevOps adoption and produce a persuasive change plan that aligns stakeholders, maps the adoption curve, and establishes core DevOps values.
• Design and evaluate a CI/CD workflow that integrates automated testing, continuous integration/delivery, feedback loops, and velocity metrics across development and test environments.
• Apply fault-tolerant engineering and on-call practices by creating an incident response plan and runbook that demonstrates error engineering, humane rotation practices, and post‑incident learning.
• Demonstrate cloud and architecture decision-making by comparing cloud types and migration strategies, and by creating maintainable APIs and code architectures that support the six core DevOps capabilities.
