Foundations of AI-Driven Project Management

This unit introduces the historical context and core concepts of AI as applied to project management, focusing on the initiating and concept phases and the role of conversational AI tools. Students will learn prompt engineering, information-gathering techniques, forecasting with ChatGPT, people-management chatbots, and foundational cybersecurity and integration principles to prepare for deeper technical and operational practice in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the evolution of artificial intelligence and articulate its implications for the initiating and concept phases of project management, producing a brief written summary linking AI capabilities to PM-AI workflows
• Apply conversational AI tools and chat interfaces to generate targeted project inquiries, gather and synthesize stakeholder information, and draft an initial project concept or charter
• Demonstrate prompt engineering techniques and ChatGPT best practices to improve decision-making quality and produce accurate project forecasts or scenario analyses
• Evaluate organizational integration considerations—including people-management chatbots and cybersecurity principles—and recommend a set of prioritized actions aligned with eight principles for safe AI model adoption
