This unit develops targeted reading, mathematics, and writing skills alongside practical test-taking strategies to improve ACT performance. Building on foundational concepts from Unit 1, it prepares students for timed practice, essay construction, and accommodations awareness required in Units 3 and 4.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze and classify reading passages and question types to select appropriate comprehension and evidence-based strategies under timed conditions.
- Apply arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric procedures (including fractions, decimals, percentages, complex numbers, roots/radicals, angles, and triangles) to solve ACT-style mathematics problems accurately and efficiently.
- Demonstrate command of English conventions and punctuation and construct clear, thesis-driven essays that align with ACT essay scoring criteria during timed writing prompts.
- Evaluate ACT administration variables (state differences, accommodations, scoring rules) and implement time-management, trap-avoidance, and study strategies to improve practice-test performance and target scores.
