Windows 11 Desktop Fundamentals

This unit introduces students to core Windows 11 concepts and everyday end‑user tasks, including navigating the desktop, Start menu, taskbar and windows; managing files and folders; launching and using common apps; and configuring basic accounts, networks, printing, backup and security settings. It builds foundational skills needed for deeper troubleshooting, device configuration, and enterprise support covered in later units.

Learning Objectives

• Demonstrate proficiency navigating the Windows 11 user interface by locating and opening apps, resizing and arranging windows, using the Start menu, taskbar, search/Copilot, and recovering lost windows to complete assigned tasks
• Apply file and storage management techniques to create, organize, open, save, export (including PDF), back up, and restore files and folders using File Explorer, File History, OneDrive, and local drives
• Configure connectivity and communication tools by setting up a Microsoft account, connecting to a network and the Internet, configuring email in Outlook, and printing from applications
• Evaluate and respond to basic security and account scenarios by interpreting permission (UAC) prompts, configuring user accounts, enabling Windows Security protections, and applying safe practices for backups and AI/Copilot features
