Sustaining Professional Networks and Transitions

This unit develops interpersonal and strategic skills to strengthen and sustain professional relationships through effective listening, reliable follow-through, reputation-building, and referral generation. Students will also learn job-search and career-transition techniques and how to adapt networking approaches for different personalities, genders, generations, and cultures to maintain long-term, mutually beneficial connections.

Learning Objectives

• Demonstrate active listening and reliable follow-through by completing simulated networking conversations and producing corresponding written follow-up communications and action plans within specified timelines
• Apply strategies to build reputation and generate referrals by designing a word-of-mouth marketing and referral plan that includes at least three engagement tactics and outreach templates
• Analyze personal career-transition readiness and evaluate job-seeking effectiveness by completing a self-assessment, identifying two improvement areas, and developing a 30-day job-search action plan with measurable goals
• Demonstrate culturally and generationally competent networking by adapting communication strategies across personality types, genders, cultures, and life stages in scenario-based role plays and reflecting on effectiveness
