Spatial Analysis and Data Integration

This unit develops applied spatial-analysis and data-integration skills for working with raster and vector datasets, network and hydrologic modeling, and map production. Students will use APIs, web services, cloud GIS, SQL, and interoperability standards to build reproducible models, interactive maps/apps, and well-documented datasets in preparation for capstone project work.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze raster and vector data using interpolation, raster overlay, and map-algebra operations to create derived surfaces and predict spatial values
• Apply network and hydrological analysis tools to model flow, one-way paths, streams, and circuitry and to compute optimal routes and accumulations
• Demonstrate the ability to access, query, and integrate geospatial data through APIs, web services, SQL, and cloud GIS platforms while documenting metadata for interoperability
• Evaluate and produce cartographic outputs and interactive maps/apps by laying out maps, building models, and applying data standards, security practices, and GIS best practices
