This unit teaches practical skills for staying safe, minimizing costs, and resolving common problems while traveling on a budget. Students build on trip‑planning foundations to practice risk reduction, local adaptation, and decision-making about transportation and bookings, preparing them for advanced itinerary and customer‑service topics in Unit 4.

• Analyze common travel scams, hidden fees, and cultural cues to identify at least five red flags in simulated marketplace and transit scenarios
• Apply situational safety and low‑profile techniques to create a personal safety plan that reduces theft and fraud risk while using public transit, markets, and accommodation
• Demonstrate step‑by‑step problem‑resolution procedures (e.g., if robbed, delayed, or overcharged) including communication with family/friends and service providers in role‑play exercises
• Evaluate options for changing versus canceling flights and other bookings by comparing costs, penalties, and time tradeoffs to make cost‑effective decisions
