Intermediate Java: OOP & Robust Code

This unit develops core object‑oriented programming skills and practices for writing more robust Java programs. Students will explore class design (inheritance, abstract and inner classes), access control, error handling and debugging, primitives and parameter passing, and prepare their development environment and learning resources for continued study.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and design class hierarchies by implementing inheritance, abstract classes, inner classes, and subclasses to model relationships and extend behavior in Java programs.
• Apply encapsulation and member visibility by using public, private, and default access modifiers to control state and interface between classes.
• Demonstrate error handling and debugging techniques by writing and testing try/catch blocks, selecting appropriate exception types, and employing systematic debugging strategies to identify and fix runtime and logic errors.
• Evaluate data types, parameter passing, and control flow by choosing suitable primitive types, composing nested conditionals and formatting operations, and managing object lifecycle considerations while preparing a Java development environment and learning resources for continued learning.
