This unit introduces core C# language fundamentals and foundational .NET concepts, including data types, control flow, collections, methods, and basic object‑oriented design. Students will also learn error handling, file and network I/O, and survey common .NET project templates (WPF, UWP, ASP.NET Core) to prepare for building UI, data, and web applications in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate proficiency with C# syntax and core data types (ints, strings, arrays), variables, arithmetic operations, and control structures (if, switch, loops) by implementing console programs that meet specified requirements
- Apply object‑oriented principles to define and use classes, methods, access modifiers, inheritance, polymorphism, and delegates/callbacks in small projects, and compare use cases for structs versus classes
- Analyze and handle runtime faults by implementing exception handling, using generics and enumerations where appropriate, and applying basic secure coding practices while performing file I/O and interacting with System.IO and System.Data APIs
- Evaluate .NET project templates and libraries (WPF, UWP, ASP.NET Core, System.Net, System.Drawing) and demonstrate how to organize multi‑file projects, set project options, and version assemblies to prototype simple UI, data, or network‑enabled applications
