Implementing Inclusive STEM Instruction

This unit prepares teacher candidates to translate curriculum design into classroom practice by integrating inclusive pedagogy, assessments, and practical resources for STEM instruction. Learners will revise lessons, apply assessment strategies for content and collaboration, use technology and OER, and prototype hands-on and community-building STEM experiences that promote equity and engagement.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze existing STEM lesson plans and revise them to integrate Universal Design for Learning, culturally responsive practices, and prompts that foster student inquiry
• Apply formative and summative assessment strategies, including rubrics and performance tasks, to measure student content knowledge and collaboration/employability skills
• Demonstrate effective use of digital tools, government and open educational resources, and classroom organization solutions to support instruction, team preparation, and accessible materials management
• Evaluate and prototype hands-on engineering and engagement activities (e.g., parachute design, STEM game nights) for their effectiveness in promoting engineering practices, student motivation, and justice-oriented STEM learning
