This unit develops practical full‑stack skills by combining HTML5/CSS/JavaScript user interfaces with server‑side PHP and MySQL database programming. Students learn development tooling, secure PHP practices, client‑server communication, and basic application scaffolding to prepare for framework‑based application development in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and compare server hosting options and development tools, and configure basic server and deployment settings (including installing WordPress) to support a web application environment.
• Apply HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and browser developer tools to create accessible, interactive UI components (forms, media, events) and to locate and manipulate DOM elements during development.
• Demonstrate server‑side programming by implementing PHP control structures, text functions, magic methods, and cookies, and apply secure coding techniques to mitigate common PHP vulnerabilities.
• Apply MySQL and the mysqli library to design, create, and query application databases, manage user accounts, perform CRUD operations from PHP, and implement client‑server communication patterns (e.g., AJAX) for dynamic data interaction.
