This unit develops core front-end and back-end web development skills, including setting up a PHP/MySQL development environment, building structured HTML/CSS layouts, and using JavaScript for dynamic behavior and asynchronous data fetching. Students will also learn to create and manipulate databases, validate and secure form data, and use debugging and accessibility techniques to produce robust web applications.
Learning Objectives
- Configure a local PHP/MySQL development environment (e.g., XAMPP), connect to a web host, and demonstrate deployment-ready settings for server-side development
- Create and manage MySQL databases and tables using phpMyAdmin and write PHP scripts to execute SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE queries
- Implement client-server interactions by building HTML web forms, validating input on the server, using the Fetch API to retrieve JSON, and handling responses in JavaScript
- Diagnose and resolve functionality and runtime issues using browser developer tools and PHP error logs, while evaluating accessibility considerations and common security risks in input handling
