This unit introduces the essential planning, design, and technical setup steps for building modern websites, including resource assessment, domain/hosting acquisition, wireframing, content preparation, color selection, and basic HTML5 authoring. Students will organize a site in Dreamweaver CS6 and apply mobile-friendly design practices to create standards-compliant starter pages that prepare them for deeper development in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze project goals, target audience, timeline, and available resources to produce a documented site plan that includes recommended domain and hosting options and project constraints
- Apply wireframing and storyboarding techniques to create a site map and responsive mockups, and define a cohesive color scheme and prepared content aligned with branding and accessibility guidelines
- Demonstrate configuring and using Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 to organize site files, link to a web host, and deploy project assets
- Evaluate basic HTML5 pages for semantic markup, standards compliance, accessibility, and mobile responsiveness using validation and device/screen-size testing tools, and revise pages accordingly
