Foundations of Hyperintelligence Systems

This unit surveys the deep origins and accelerating pathways that lead from cosmic and biological complexity to emergent hyperintelligent technologies, emphasizing the interplay of science, economics, and ethics. Students will synthesize historical and technical narratives and evaluate management and policy implications to prepare for applied strategy and implementation in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze major stages in the emergence of complexity — from cosmological and biological origins to cultural and technological cascades — by comparing at least three lessons and identifying key drivers, tipping points, and system behaviors.
• Evaluate ethical risks, societal impacts, and stakeholder trade-offs posed by advanced technologies (e.g., AI, gene machines, physical AI, quantum) and propose at least three actionable governance or mitigation strategies for business leaders.
• Apply systems-thinking and macroeconomic concepts (including Say’s Law, scarcity dynamics, and investment paradoxes) to construct two plausible organizational scenarios and recommend strategic investment or operational responses for each.
• Demonstrate foresight and communication skills by producing a concise situational report or roadmap that synthesizes technological trajectories (tokens, sequencing, hydrogen economy, singularities) and outlines implications for management, regulation, and market opportunities.
