BIM Collaboration, Implementation, and Operations

This capstone unit equips students to implement BIM across procurement, construction, and facility operations by exploring collaboration tools, interoperability, administration, and methods for measuring return on investment. Students will evaluate real-world workflows, apply estimating and fabrication tools, and develop strategies to promote BIM adoption and asset handover across stakeholders.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze procurement, supply-chain, and contract strategies to recommend BIM-enabled delivery approaches that improve collaboration, risk allocation, and project outcomes
• Evaluate file-sharing, model-viewing, checking, and interoperability tools and standards to design a coordinated BIM collaboration workflow for a multidisciplinary project
• Apply quantity takeoff, estimating, shop-drawing/fabrication, and construction-management tools to produce a coordinated BIM-based estimate and fabrication coordination plan
• Demonstrate methods for measuring BIM benefits and preparing facility-management handover, including training, administration, and stakeholder-engagement plans to encourage organizational adoption
