ACT Foundations and Test-Day Readiness

This unit introduces students to the ACT’s overall structure, timing, and question types while building foundational skills in English and math necessary for early success. Students will learn test-day logistics, stress-management techniques, and create a concrete study and test plan that readies them for deeper skill practice in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the ACT test format and question types across English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing to produce a one-page test plan that outlines timing, scoring, and at least three question-specific strategies.
• Apply standard English conventions and sentence-structure knowledge (parts of speech, grammar, and punctuation) to edit and justify changes on ACT-style English items, achieving benchmark accuracy on practice sets.
• Demonstrate step-by-step solution methods for foundational ACT math problems (number properties, roots, linear equations/lines, and inequalities) by completing and explaining a set of ACT-style problems with correct reasoning.
• Evaluate personal preparedness and implement test-day logistics and stress-management strategies by creating a dated study schedule, a packed-test checklist, and a pre-test stress plan aligned to a chosen test date.
