Flutter & Dart Fundamentals

This unit introduces core concepts of mobile app development using Flutter and Dart, covering hardware/software basics, Dart programming fundamentals, and building simple interactive UIs. Students will create and enhance a small app while preparing for deeper topics such as state management, advanced animations, and deployment in later units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the roles of hardware, software, and development tools (IDEs, emulators, device requirements) in the Flutter mobile app development workflow
• Apply Dart programming fundamentals — including functions, classes, inheritance, control flow, and asynchronous constructs (Future/async/await) — to implement app logic and utilities
• Demonstrate construction of basic Flutter user interfaces using widgets (Scaffold, FloatingActionButton, Switch, Text), nesting with Rows and Columns, event handling, and initial animation setup
• Evaluate and iteratively enhance a small app project (e.g., Doris’s Dating App) by improving layout, text handling (capitalization), interactivity, and readiness for subsequent units on state management and advanced animations
