Python Fundamentals and Development Tools

This unit introduces students to the Python ecosystem, development tools, and core language fundamentals needed to begin programming. Students will set up a Python workspace, use interactive and file-based workflows, and practice fundamental syntax, data types, variables, operators, comments, basic modules, and introductory object-oriented concepts while applying debugging and readability principles.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze differences among Python implementations and versions (e.g., CPython, PyPy, Python 2 vs 3) and justify the appropriate choice for a given project or learning environment
• Apply development tools and workflows by installing/configuring Python, creating project folders, using interactive mode, opening and editing Python files, importing modules, and running/debugging code
• Demonstrate correct use of Python syntax and foundational constructs by writing, executing, and debugging short programs that use indentation, comments, variables, data types, and operators
• Evaluate code readability and quality by applying the Zen of Python principles, identifying and correcting syntax and runtime errors, and assessing basic object-oriented structure for clarity
