Societal and Economic Impacts of Agentic AI

This unit examines real-world impacts, risks, and strategic opportunities of agentic AI across sectors including healthcare, finance, entertainment, and geopolitics. Students synthesize platform evolution, privacy/security considerations, and future economic and global trends to perform risk assessments and produce stakeholder recommendations that build on foundational concepts from earlier units and prepare for applied design and deployment in Unit 4.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze healthcare, entertainment, and investment case studies to identify at least five opportunities and five risks introduced by agentic AI, including effects on well-being and business models
• Evaluate privacy, security, and geopolitical threats by applying the unit’s risk assessment framework to three distinct scenarios and prioritize mitigation strategies with justification
• Apply knowledge of platform architectures and the shift from traditional AI to agentic systems to produce a written comparative analysis and recommend platform or design considerations for stakeholders in healthcare, finance, and entertainment
• Demonstrate foresight by developing a 3–5 year scenario-based forecast and investment guidance that integrates economic trends, global dynamics, and ethical considerations to inform strategic decision-making
