Professional Leadership and Communication

This unit develops advanced professional skills for leading teams and communicating effectively in workplace settings, emphasizing time management, negotiation, project documentation, and mindful leadership in both in-person and virtual contexts. Students practice writing and presentation techniques, conflict resolution, and project planning to prepare for applied career tasks in the final unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze personal work habits and apply value-based time-management techniques to produce a two-week time-blocked schedule and prioritized to-do list, justifying selections with at least three criteria from the unit.
• Demonstrate effective professional written communication by producing three workplace messages (an email response, a reader-friendly document excerpt, and a negotiation opening offer) that use active voice, appropriate tone, clear graphics, and meet a rubric standard for accuracy and clarity.
• Apply negotiation and conflict-resolution strategies to plan and conduct two role-played negotiation scenarios (a team dispute and a business negotiation), documenting opening offers, counteroffers, concessions, and closure steps, with at least one scenario reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.
• Evaluate leadership and project-management practices by developing project artifacts (assumptions log, project work plan, and meeting agendas) and a brief plan for leading a virtual or cross-cultural team that includes boundary-setting, mindfulness techniques, and measurable progress indicators.
