Professional Composition and Distribution

This capstone unit synthesizes advanced composition techniques with real-world production, collaboration, and release practices. Students refine orchestration and arrangement skills, produce and package final demos for film, games, advertising, and ensembles, and apply industry-standard copyright, licensing, and marketing strategies to publish and promote their work.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze orchestration and arrangement choices for orchestra, ensemble, film, and game scoring by comparing professional scores and producing written annotations that justify instrumentation, voicing, and form decisions
• Apply production and arranging techniques to create a polished final demo or mockup (for sync, commercial, or ensemble use) that meets industry standards for mix, format, and metadata
• Demonstrate knowledge of intellectual property, licensing, and distribution by completing copyright registration, drafting a licensing/release plan, and selecting appropriate platforms or agencies for submission
• Evaluate career and collaboration pathways (agents, music libraries, sync services, teaching, and team composition) and produce a professional portfolio and outreach strategy tailored to at least two target markets
