Mixing, Editing, and Delivery

This unit guides students through editing recorded performances, building mixes in the DAW, and preparing final masters and deliverables for release. Students learn microphone choices and routing, apply EQ, dynamics, time-based effects and automation, and produce distribution-ready files and web/physical deliverables.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze microphone types, placement techniques, and signal path decisions to justify optimal miking setups for different instruments and ensemble contexts
• Apply digital editing and session-management techniques (loop formats, MIDI editing, overdubs, tempo mapping, saving, and session setup) to produce a clean, organized multitrack project
• Demonstrate mixing processes in-the-box including level management, EQ, compression, reverb, delay, limiters, and automation to achieve a balanced, stylistically appropriate mix
• Evaluate and prepare final mixes for mastering and distribution by creating master-ready files, deliverables for CD and music-host sites, and basic metadata/packaging for online release
