Implementing and Scaling Inclusive Design

This unit teaches students how to move inclusive and equitable design from research into sustained practice by engaging hard-to-reach communities, navigating ethics and power dynamics, and building organizational support. Students learn to create business cases, implementation roadmaps, scaling strategies, and practical metrics to measure impact and replicability across local and global contexts.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze methods for accessing and authentically engaging inaccessible communities and assess ethical considerations and power dynamics that affect inclusive design efforts
• Evaluate and construct business-case arguments (including cost-benefit and value-driven models) to justify investment in inclusive and equitable design initiatives
• Design a sequenced implementation and scaling plan that orchestrates organizational change, includes steps to mitigate common barriers, and addresses local versus global adaptation needs
• Develop measurable metrics and an evaluation plan to monitor impact, replicability, and equity outcomes, and propose strategies to navigate emerging challenges in a changing social and technological landscape
