Clinical Foundations and Safety

This unit reinforces foundational nursing skills in assessment, pathophysiology, and safe clinical practice while integrating psychosocial care and health promotion. Students will apply medication safety, infection control, diagnostic interpretation, care planning, delegation, and NCLEX-RN preparation to transition from basic knowledge to competent clinical decision-making needed for subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze psychosocial needs (including coping, crisis intervention, grief, Maslow’s hierarchy) to develop appropriate counseling strategies and prioritize patient-centered interventions.
• Apply principles of safe medication administration, nutrition and hydration management, infection control, and pain management when creating and implementing evidence-based care plans.
• Demonstrate interpretation of common diagnostic assessments and recognition of pathophysiologic imbalances to anticipate complications and prioritize nursing actions.
• Evaluate NCLEX-RN testing requirements, effective test-taking strategies, legal/ethical responsibilities, and essential clinical informatics skills to prepare for licensure and professional practice.
