Cinematography, Audio, and Post-Production

This unit integrates camera operation, lighting, sound, editing, and deliverable preparation to move projects from set through post. Students practice technical capture (exposure, frame rate, aspect ratio), on-set lighting and microphone placement, editing and compositing techniques, and platform-specific formatting and marketing strategies to prepare content for distribution.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze camera systems and capture parameters (sensor, shutter, exposure, aspect ratio, frame rate) and recommend appropriate technical settings for at least two distinct production scenarios to achieve specified aesthetic and technical goals.
• Apply lighting and sound principles by assembling and measuring a light kit to meet target exposure, and positioning microphones on set to capture clear, low-noise dialogue for scripted scenes.
• Demonstrate post-production workflows by organizing media, performing the five basic types of edits, executing basic compositing/keying and mattes, and producing a synchronized final audio mix using a DAW.
• Evaluate distribution and platform requirements (theatrical, home/streaming, and social media) and prepare deliverables—including export settings, aspect-ratio/frame-rate conversions, marketing assets, and a correctly formatted scene screenplay—aligned with target platform specifications.
