This unit explores how AI can transform nonprofit operations, focusing on human resources, volunteer management, training, DEI, fundraising, grant development, and program planning. Students analyze real-world case studies, assess ethical and equity implications, and develop practical, transparent AI-driven plans to increase impact and build stakeholder trust.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze current and emerging uses of AI in the nonprofit sector and assess potential impacts on populations served using provided case studies and data-driven examples.
• Evaluate ethical, bias, transparency, and DEI implications of AI applications and design concrete mitigation and governance strategies to promote equitable outcomes.
• Apply generative AI and analytics tools to create and iterate at least one prototype workflow or plan that optimizes HR/volunteer management, training, fundraising, or program development.
• Demonstrate stakeholder-facing communication tactics by producing an actionable roadmap that explains AI-driven decisions, documents transparency measures, and outlines steps for responsible implementation.
