Advanced Java: Data, Concurrency & GUI

This capstone unit has students integrate advanced Java language features, data structures, concurrency controls, and JavaFX user interface techniques to build robust, event-driven applications. Learners will apply collections and iteration patterns, functional interfaces and lambdas, synchronization and locking, and exception-handling and OOP refinements to produce maintainable, thread-safe programs.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze program requirements and select appropriate Java collections (LinkedList, Stack, Queue, Deque, Map, arrays) and iteration techniques (enhanced for loop, Iterator) to design efficient data storage and traversal solutions.
• Apply modern Java language features (lambda expressions, java.util.function, records, varargs) and JavaFX event-handling patterns to implement responsive, event-driven user interfaces.
• Demonstrate concurrency control by implementing synchronized methods, explicit Locks, and thread-interruption handling to create thread-safe operations and coordinate multi-threaded tasks.
• Evaluate and implement robust object-oriented and error-handling practices (checked and custom exceptions, initializers, final, casting, scope rules) to improve code correctness, maintainability, and reliability.
