Foundations of Instructional Design

This unit introduces core principles, processes, and professional perspectives of instructional design, including alignment, needs analysis, learning types, delivery modes, and writing measurable objectives. Students will learn to classify goals and tasks, select appropriate frameworks and collaborative activities, and plan ways to evaluate instructional effectiveness to prepare for applied design projects in subsequent units.

• Analyze learner contexts, stakeholder needs, and performance gaps to conduct a basic needs analysis and prioritize instructional goals
• Apply principles of alignment and Bloom’s taxonomy to create measurable instructional objectives that link goals, assessments, and delivery modes
• Demonstrate selection and justification of instructional-design frameworks, delivery modes, and collaborative learning activities appropriate to specified learning goals
• Evaluate criteria and methods for measuring instruction success, and compare planned design assumptions with likely real-world use to inform iterative revisions
