AI Foundations for Classroom Teaching

This unit introduces teachers to core concepts of artificial intelligence, generative models, and practical classroom integration strategies, emphasizing opportunities, challenges, and sustainability. Learners will connect AI fundamentals to pedagogical frameworks and workforce-readiness skills to prepare lessons that foster AI literacy, creativity, and lifelong learning.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze opportunities and challenges of AI integration in K–12 classrooms by identifying at least three benefits and three risks (e.g., equity, privacy, bias) and describing their instructional implications.
• Apply fundamentals of AI and generative models to design one standards-aligned lesson prototype that includes learning objectives, chosen AI tool(s), scaffolded activities, and assessment criteria suitable for a defined grade level.
• Demonstrate effective prompt-writing and AI literacy by creating and iteratively refining at least three student-facing prompts across cognitive levels and evaluating the resulting outputs for accuracy, relevance, and potential bias.
• Evaluate sustainable AI integration strategies through comparison of at least two pedagogical approaches (constructivist, behaviorist, sociocultural), justifying a selected approach for a specific classroom context that supports growth mindset, creativity, and workforce readiness.
