This unit develops advanced home-recording techniques, signal processing, session workflow, and instrument-specific microphone strategies to finalize professional-sounding projects. It also covers data management and real-world release strategies — licensing, distribution, and promotion — so students can prepare and deliver music to audiences and the marketplace.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and select appropriate microphone types, placements, and accessories for horns, piano, strings, drum kits, percussion, hand drums, and room ambience to achieve intended tonal balance and spatial perspective.
• Apply advanced signal-processing and mixing techniques — including compression, side-chaining, amp simulation, tape saturation, distortion, doubling/tripling, level automation, transposition, and humanization — to create cohesive, emotionally effective tracks.
• Demonstrate professional session workflow and data-management practices by organizing multitrack sessions, creating loops, performing overdubs, transferring MIDI and audio files, backing up projects, and reliably capturing rehearsals.
• Evaluate and implement distribution, licensing, and promotion strategies — including digital sales, CD replication, free downloads, podcasting, email newsletters, and music licensing options — to prepare and release recordings to target audiences.
