Applied Workplace Health and Safety

This unit integrates practical assessment tools, legislative guidance, and international resources to support effective workplace health and safety practice. Learners consolidate skills in hazard measurement (noise, vibration, manual handling, asbestos, work at height), risk assessment, and management strategies to improve performance and prepare for implementation in real workplace settings.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze workplace hazards using specialized assessment tools (MAC, ART, noise/hearing, hand‑arm vibration, asbestos task sheets, work‑at‑height toolkits) and interpret results to prioritize controls
• Apply relevant legislation and international guidance (IOSH, ILO, WHO, EU‑OSHA) to develop compliant risk reduction plans for manual handling, fire, noise, vibration, asbestos, and working at height
• Evaluate organizational health and safety performance by identifying common risk assessment pitfalls (e.g., wrong guidance, paper exercises, lack of involvement, assuming no change) and recommend management actions including training, consultant engagement, and investment in people
• Demonstrate creation of an actionable, evidence‑based safety improvement plan that integrates monitoring, stress management, continuous review, and stakeholder communication to sustain compliance and worker well‑being
