This unit builds on prior design and construction fundamentals to focus on funding, budget control, change management, procurement/payment, and post‑occupancy considerations for custom home building. It also emphasizes continuous professional growth—identifying networks, resources, software, and training—to reduce risk and improve project outcomes.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze multiple project financing options (construction loans, personal financing, contractor financing) and produce a reconciled funding plan and draw schedule for a sample custom home budget
• Apply change management procedures by creating and maintaining a change order log, updating a project budget, and documenting at least three strategies to mitigate cost and schedule impacts
• Demonstrate responsible payment and procurement practices by preparing contractor pay scenarios, lien waiver checklists, and guidelines for use of credit and vendor contracts on a case study project
• Evaluate professional development and knowledge‑sharing resources (networks, conferences, publications, software, consultants) and produce a one‑page summary plan that captures lessons learned and next steps for continuous improvement
