Foundations of Web Development

This unit introduces the essential front-end and back-end concepts for full‑stack web programming, covering HTML5, CSS, JavaScript (including DOM, events, and jQuery), basic PHP, and introductory MySQL concepts. Students will build accessible, styled, interactive pages and explore how server-side code and databases support dynamic content, preparing them for deeper application architecture and security topics in later units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze HTML5 document structure and forms to produce semantic, accessible web pages that follow best practices
• Apply CSS styling techniques, responsive design basics, and image optimization to create visually consistent page templates
• Demonstrate client-side scripting by manipulating the DOM, handling events, and using jQuery and AJAX to create interactive behaviors
• Evaluate basic PHP scripts and MySQL interactions for functionality and security, including use of libraries, common vulnerabilities, and simple data persistence
