Component Development and Node I/O

This unit advances learners from foundational JavaScript to building interactive front-end components and integrating them with server-side I/O. Students will work with Svelte/Vue component lifecycles, reactivity, form binding and styling, while also implementing Node.js file/stream operations, Express routes, basic MongoDB access, testing, and version control practices to prepare for full-stack application development.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze component lifecycle events, directives, and reactivity patterns in Svelte and Vue to determine appropriate strategies for state management and UI updates
• Implement interactive user interface features by applying form/data binding, conditional rendering, loops, transitions, styling, and DOM manipulation, and demonstrate use of development tools such as the Svelte VS Code extension and dev scripts
• Apply Node.js core modules to implement file and stream I/O (including buffers and duplex streams), handle errors and events, and create Express middleware and routes that interface with MongoDB via Mongosh
• Evaluate code quality and maintainability by performing unit testing, using Git responsibly, and applying robust error-handling and debugging practices
