Lower Limb Clinical Integration

This capstone unit focuses on the anatomy and clinical application of the hip, thigh, knee, leg, ankle, and foot, integrating surface anatomy, palpation, and diagnostic imaging skills. Students will learn and apply clinical mnemonics and create a concise cheat sheet to support rapid clinical communication and prepare for advanced clinical coursework.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the osteology, arthrology, myology, neurovascular supply, and functional biomechanics of the hip, thigh, knee, leg, ankle, and foot and correlate these structures with common clinical presentations and injuries.
• Apply surface anatomy and palpation techniques to reliably identify key lower-limb landmarks and perform basic clinical tests for joint integrity and soft tissue assessment.
• Demonstrate interpretation of common diagnostic imaging modalities (plain radiography, CT, MRI, and ultrasound) for lower-limb cases and distinguish normal anatomy from frequent pathological findings.
• Evaluate and employ clinical mnemonics and a one-page cheat sheet to accurately communicate anatomical relationships, prioritize differential diagnoses, and accelerate clinical decision-making in simulated patient scenarios.
