Monitoring, Scheduling, and Communication

This unit covers monitoring and controlling project work through progress reporting, earned value analysis, scheduling, and stakeholder communication. Students learn to estimate activity durations, identify and manage constraints and change requests, and use meetings and social media to keep projects on track. It builds on foundational planning skills from earlier units and prepares learners for advanced execution and closeout topics in the final unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze project performance using written progress reports and earned value metrics to identify schedule and cost variances and recommend corrective actions
• Develop a detailed project schedule and estimate activity durations using appropriate techniques while accounting for constraints and dependencies
• Evaluate communication approaches (including social media and structured meetings) to improve stakeholder engagement, reporting clarity, and decision making
• Demonstrate professional project management responses to micromanagement, change requests, and scope/detail trade-offs by producing deliverables and facilitating key project meetings
