Foundations of Agile Project Management

This unit introduces the core values, principles, and practices of Agile project management and contrasts them with traditional approaches. Learners will develop foundational skills in customer-focused requirement refinement, adaptive planning, core Scrum events, team accountabilities, and basic scaling considerations to prepare for deeper implementation and leadership topics in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the Agile Manifesto by summarizing its four values and key principles and identifying at least three concrete differences between Agile and traditional (waterfall) approaches that affect scope, time, and quality.
• Apply customer-focused techniques to produce and prioritize a product backlog of at least six user stories, perform relative sizing (e.g., story points or t-shirt sizes) on those stories, and create a one-sprint adaptive plan that reflects prioritized value delivery.
• Demonstrate facilitation of core Scrum ceremonies by conducting a mock Daily Scrum and Sprint Review, documenting decisions, impediments, and resulting action items in a one-page record for each event.
• Evaluate team and organizational readiness by producing a short implementation plan (minimum two pages) that defines accountabilities, recommends long-lived team composition, workspace and communication changes (including low-tech options), and outlines steps to support multi-team coordination and change adoption.
