Python Data Structures and Tools

This unit teaches intermediate Python programming techniques and the developer tools needed to build, document, and debug small applications. Students will work with data structures, file I/O, exception handling, packages, GUIs, and common development workflows to prepare for larger application development in the final unit.

Learning Objectives

• Apply Python data structures and control constructs to implement and manipulate lists, stacks, and queues, and to perform string operations such as slicing, indexing, and searching.
• Demonstrate file input/output and data persistence by reading, updating, and writing files, and present tabular results using PrettyTable and notebook formatting.
• Analyze and handle runtime issues by raising and defining custom exceptions, using try/except/finally constructs, and by employing debugging and inspection tools to diagnose and fix errors.
• Apply developer tools and packaging workflows to install and inspect modules, generate developer documentation (pdoc), use an IDE or editor (Komodo Edit), build simple TkInter GUIs, execute code, and perform basic network administration tasks.
