Project Communication and Leadership

This unit develops intermediate project-management and professional-skills needed to plan, communicate, and lead small-scale projects. Students learn to define scope with a WBS, analyze stakeholders and constraints, apply persuasive communication and delegation techniques, manage time and goals, and identify risks while preparing written progress reports to support execution in subsequent units.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze project stakeholders, roles, and constraints by producing a stakeholder map that categorizes drivers, supporters, and observers and identifies at least three project constraints for a given scenario
• Create a work breakdown structure (WBS), daily prioritization plan, and basic time-budget (including calculated hourly income) for a project to justify resource allocation and scheduling decisions
• Demonstrate effective communication and leadership by selecting appropriate audiences and media, applying engagement techniques (primacy, exercise, eye contact), delegating tasks, and delivering a concise stakeholder briefing
• Evaluate project risks and progress by identifying potential risks, proposing mitigation or concession strategies, and producing a written project-progress report that summarizes status, next steps, and measurable metrics
