Quantum Technologies and Business Impacts

This unit develops students’ understanding of quantum computing fundamentals, representative algorithms (e.g., Shor’s and Grover’s), and emerging quantum AI/ML capabilities, situating technical concepts within real business problem contexts. Students will investigate potential applications, evaluate ethical and policy implications, and practice communicating actionable recommendations for organizational decision‑makers.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze the core principles of quantum computing and contrast classical and quantum approaches by explaining how representative quantum algorithms (Shor’s and Grover’s) can produce computational speedups for specific business problems
• Apply quantum AI/ML concepts to design two feasible business use cases, detailing expected value, data and infrastructure requirements, and current technical limitations
• Evaluate ethical, security, and policy considerations—including privacy, personalization/empathetic AI risks, and partnership models—related to deploying quantum-enabled solutions and recommend mitigation or governance strategies
• Demonstrate the ability to translate technical quantum concepts into business terms by producing a concise executive briefing that communicates strategic implications and recommended next steps for stakeholders
