Operational Planning and Optimization

This unit focuses on planning and executing supply chain operations through demand and production planning, procurement, inventory optimization, and order fulfillment while integrating technology and sustainability practices. Students will learn to measure and improve operational performance, identify and mitigate risks, and apply digital tools to increase visibility and customer centricity, building on foundational concepts and preparing for strategic application in the final unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze supply chain performance data and operational metrics to identify opportunities to optimize inventory levels, reduce SKUs, and improve order fill rates using simulation and optimization techniques
• Apply demand planning, MRP, and manufacturing execution concepts to develop production and delivery plans that coordinate procurement, material handling, and order fulfillment processes
• Evaluate and classify supplier and logistics risks, and design mitigation strategies (including security, reverse logistics, and scenario planning) to maintain continuity and visibility of shipments
• Demonstrate how to leverage information technologies (IoT, big data, cloud, autonomous vehicles, MES) and sustainable practices (renewable materials and energy) to enhance supply chain visibility, customer centricity, and operational resilience
