Strategic AI Adoption and Governance

This unit synthesizes prior learning into actionable plans for adopting AI in nonprofit organizations, emphasizing governance, ethics, funding, capacity building, and measurable impact. Learners will evaluate regulatory and marketplace factors, design roadmaps and budgets, build teams and training plans, and prepare governance and compliance strategies for a human-centered AI future.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze external factors and major AI governance frameworks (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST, Singapore Model, EU HLEG ethics) to assess legal, ethical, and reputational risks for nonprofit AI initiatives
• Develop a comprehensive AI adoption plan and roadmap that defines strategic goals, timelines, budgets, multidisciplinary team roles, training and capacity-building activities, and milestones for implementation
• Apply measurement and continuous-improvement methods to evaluate AI impact, monitor ethical risks (including deepfakes and bias), and balance efficiency with the nonprofit’s human-centered mission
• Create and justify funding and governance proposals (leveraging models such as Fundraising.AI) to secure resources, stakeholder buy-in, and accountable oversight for AI-driven programs
