Practical Logistics for Digital Nomads

This unit equips students to plan and manage the practical, legal, financial, and interpersonal logistics of living and working abroad as digital nomads. Learners research destination visas and healthcare, build housing and service plans, design remote-work roles and collaboration workflows, and prepare budgets and personal strategies for sustainable travel and family/relationship readiness.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze and compare visa, housing, healthcare, and insurance requirements and options for at least three international destinations (e.g., Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Indonesia) to recommend an optimal location and timing given specified personal and professional constraints
• Develop and apply a comprehensive 3-month digital nomad budget and logistics plan that includes housing reservations, essential services setup, travel arrangements, and contingency funds
• Demonstrate the ability to design or adapt a remote job and collaborate on remote teams by producing role descriptions, communication/collaboration workflows, contractor sourcing plans, and onboarding/checklist documents
• Evaluate personal and interpersonal readiness for the digital nomad lifestyle—addressing traveling with kids, family/partner communication, dating, social boundaries, work-life balance, and travel pace—and produce an actionable plan to mitigate identified risks
