Production and Editing Fundamentals

This unit teaches on-set production techniques and hands-on editing workflows using iMovie. Students practice lighting, directing, framing, and shot-check procedures, then create projects, import footage, assemble timelines, add transitions, jump cuts, titles, and record voiceovers to prepare polished video segments for later publishing and evaluation.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze lighting, framing, shot composition, and continuity to plan technical setups that support a video’s purpose and intended audience
• Apply directing and shooting techniques (including lighting setups, camera placement, shot types, and shot checking) to capture a complete set of usable clips that meet coverage and continuity requirements
• Demonstrate proficiency with iMovie by creating a new project, importing footage or webcam recordings, assembling clips on a timeline, and producing an edited sequence that includes transitions, jump cuts, titles, and a recorded voiceover
• Evaluate and justify choices of editing tools, transition types, and cut styles to enhance narrative flow and audience engagement based on production goals
