BIM Implementation and Standards

This unit focuses on applying international and industry BIM standards, information management practices, and coordination strategies to create executable project plans. Students will develop components of a BIM Execution Plan (BEP), evaluate tools and interoperability, and design training, safety, and change-management approaches to support consistent BIM delivery and prepare for advanced project workflows.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze international and industry BIM standards and compare their implications for project information requirements and exchange procedures by producing a comparative summary that identifies at least three project-specific impacts
• Apply information management and coordination techniques to develop key components of a BIM Execution Plan (BEP) — including roles, data deliverables, and exchange protocols — by producing a BEP draft with a phased information delivery schedule
• Demonstrate selection and configuration of BIM and specification tools, including basic IoT integration and interoperability checks, by creating a tool-selection matrix and completing a mock data-exchange test meeting defined project criteria
• Evaluate organizational change, training, health & safety considerations, and standardization strategies to support BIM adoption by producing an implementation checklist and a risk-mitigation plan addressing at least five stakeholder or site concerns
