Integrated Medical, Trauma & Pediatrics

This unit covers assessment and management of common medical, obstetric/gynecologic, trauma, and pediatric emergencies, plus EMS operations fundamentals. Students will apply clinical protocols in simulation and complete a practice exam to identify gaps and prepare for the capstone unit.

Learning Objectives

• Analyze clinical presentations and pathophysiology for common medical and obstetric/gynecologic emergencies to prioritize assessment and select appropriate EMT-level interventions per local protocols
• Apply trauma assessment and rapid stabilization techniques—including hemorrhage control, spinal motion restriction decisions, and shock management—consistent with mechanism-of-injury principles and scene safety
• Demonstrate pediatric assessment and age-appropriate interventions (neonate through adolescent), including airway management, weight-based medication calculations, and family-centered communication in simulated scenarios
• Evaluate EMS operations topics (incident command, triage, scene safety, legal/ethical considerations) and complete Practice Exam 1 to develop an individualized remediation plan and readiness goals for the final unit
