This unit prepares students to perform on the EMT certification exam by combining test-preparation strategies with focused clinical skill review. Students will complete a scored preassessment, learn exam techniques, and practice airway, ventilation, and basic resuscitation skills to bridge foundational knowledge from earlier units and ready themselves for advanced application in subsequent units.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze an official EMT exam blueprint and individual preassessment results to create a prioritized, measurable study plan that targets identified knowledge and skills gaps
- Apply evidence-based test-taking strategies (time management, question analysis, educated guessing, and stress-reduction techniques) during timed practice exams to improve accuracy and efficiency
- Demonstrate correct airway management and oxygenation techniques—including selection and insertion of oral and nasal airways, bag-valve-mask ventilation, and appropriate oxygen delivery—on manikins to meet established performance criteria
- Evaluate common cardiac rhythms and execute appropriate resuscitation interventions—high-quality CPR, AED application, and basic advanced airway/resuscitation actions—during simulated scenarios in accordance with current protocols
