This unit covers the integration of server-side PHP development, client-side JavaScript/CSS, and application architecture to produce complete, maintainable web applications. Students will build dynamic features (shopping carts, authentication), implement asynchronous interactions (AJAX/DOM), apply MVC or microframework patterns, extend platforms like WordPress, and test and refine responsive, accessible user interfaces.
Learning Objectives
- Apply advanced PHP techniques (operators, event-driven code, OOP inheritance, file inclusion, date/time, and image handling) to implement server-side features such as shopping carts, session management, and secure logout functionality.
- Demonstrate asynchronous client-server interactions and dynamic UI updates by implementing AJAX data transfer, DOM manipulation, enhanced HTML5 form behaviors and validation, and front-end effects (animations, shadows, fonts) to improve usability.
- Analyze and design modular application architecture using MVC patterns or microframeworks and extend CMS platforms (WordPress) by creating and integrating plugins/widgets to produce reusable, maintainable components.
- Evaluate and test web applications through functional and UI testing, debugging, and responsive checks (media queries), ensuring performance, cross-browser compatibility, and adherence to best practices for accessibility and user experience.
